Chemotherapy-Induced Fever: A Case Report of Metastatic Urothelial Cancer

  • Chemotherapy-induced fever (CIF) is a significant non-hematological side effect of chemotherapeutic medications, with Gemcitabine being one of the most common agents that cause this type of fever. CIF is determined as a diagnosis of exclusion when a comprehensive clinical and laboratory evaluation fails to find the specific cause for the patient’s fever. An old-age male with a history of metastatic urothelial cancer presented with CIF after treatment with a single-agent Gemcitabine. Clinicians should maintain a high index of suspicion for CIF to avoid unnecessary treatments and superfluous investigations.
